Learn How to Homebrew Day Brewout 2025 – Recap

On Saturday, Nov. 2nd., we celebrated National “Learn How to Homebrew Day” with a brew out at the clubhouse. This is a fun event that we host every year in November with the goal of showing some of our newer (and prospective) brewing members what it takes to make beer. This year, we invited our friends from Girls Pint Out (GPO) and the Beer Babes Family to join in the festivities. They worked with our boozy scientist himself, Nate Anderson, to craft a custom Gingerbread Stout recipe to enjoy during the holidays. Nate and the ladies brewed 10 gallons of this beer on the club’s Blichmann “Top Tier” gas system. I was around to help with some of the technical aspects of setting up the system and mashing, but otherwise it was all them.

Also brewing onsite was David Skogebo in his 10 gallon grandfather, electric system. While we certainly could have accommodated him with our new 30A 240 electric brewing pigtail, he opted instead to power his system right off his new CyberTruck. Freakin’ awesome! About 15 year ago, I hauled my entire 3 vessel propane rig to the top of Mt. Lemmon to brew with the Tucson Homebrew Club. My entire truck bed was filled with not only with the rig and vessels, but also all the RO water, a bucket of starsan, carboys, and a crate of other miscellaneous brewing tools. David rolls up with one “brew in a basket” system, and plugs it right into is truck. Crazy!

At noon, Chef Warren grilled up 3 different kinds of brats, topped with either traditional sauerkraut, or his homemade peppers and onion. It was a great day with great food, great company, great beer and (finally) great weather!

We intend to have a few more of these brew outs at the clubhouse in the next 6 months. For those that want to brew without having to haul equipment – we have two electric systems and one propane system that can be reserved by any club member. We will announce the next brew out in the traditional channels – Discord, Hot Break, social media platforms and on the club’s calendar on the website. Stay tuned, and I hope to see you brewing at the clubhouse this brewing season!
